D'Banj was the evening's big winner as Nigerian artistes dominate Channel O Music Video Awards


Nigerian stars had an impressive outing at the 9th Channel O Music Video Awards- the biggest video awards show for the African continent- on Saturday November 17 night in Soweto, South Africa, as they won six awards out of an impressive 13 nominations.

D'Banj was the evening's big winner when he walked away with the prize for Most Gifted Video of the Year for his smash hit Oliver Twist - a song which also won him the coveted Most Gifted Male Video prize.

Oliver Twist was the first track released by the star following his signing to Kanye West's G.O.O.D Music record label in June 2011. Oliver Twist, which combines dance music and Afro-Beats was not only a chart topper in Africa, but was a top 10 hit in the UK singles chart in 2012 reaching #2 on the UK R&B chart.

To the crowd's delight D'Banj performed the prizewinning track at the show, which took place at South Africa's Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto. The awards took place in a custom-built dome and were broadcast live to 53 countries.

The awards were hosted by South Africa's Bonang Matheba and Nigerian superstar Ice Prince. Performances on the evening included songs from Mo'Cheddah, Oskido, SA's Khuli Chana, rapper Zues and many others.

The Nigerian music industry dominated at the awards - with recognition for Davido, P Square, Brymo, Tiwa Savage, Ice Prince, MoCheddah and D-Black and of course D'Banj.
A tweet from D'Banj just hours after he won read: "This year has been great and I have no one to thank but God and you guys, I'm more humbled everyday .God bless u all. I'll #Never dissapoint u."
